We were excited to spot our award-nominated Poppies restaurant design providing the backdrop for Tess Daly's latest photoshoot. The model-turned-TV presenter looked right at home cosying up to the original 1940's jukebox in a personal profile for the Daily Mail. Talking candidly about her home life and career, Strictly Come Dancing presenter, Tess Daly, is seen posing with the custom-made fish pans, enjoying a coca-cola on the diner-style banquette and relaxing with a cone of chips on the original 1940s wooden outdoor cinema seats.
It's not the first time this Avocado Sweets restaurant design has been in the spotlight. In 2014 Poppies of Camden was picked from competition world-wide as one of the best Restaurant and Bar designs in the Society of British and International Design (SBID) awards. It went on to become a finalist in the inaugural Casual Dining Awards shortly after.
With a style of its own, the 100-seater Camden-based restaurant takes customers back to the 1940s and London's re-birth after the war. Recently judged the best UK independent fish and chip restaurant (2014), Poppies serve up traditional fare, to eat in or take away, from some of the finest sustainable suppliers. To match that quality, Avocado Sweets ensured fixtures and fittings from floor to ceiling are reclaimed or traditionally-made to create a lasting appeal for Camden’s discerning locals, creative office workers and tourists alike.
Swapping the glamour of Saturday night's Strictly Come Dancing for the retro vibe of Poppies Fish and Chips appears to have been an easy transition for Tess Daly. 'I'm in a very happy place here,' she told the Mail. Thanks Tess. We're happy you are too.
