Calling all design lovers. Houzz UK is a new website that helps de-mystify the interior design process, giving members of the public free access to designers, advice and tons of inspirational images. Already hugely popular in the US, Houzz UK has been specifically tailored to the UK market. Launched today, the site is predicted to 'shake up' the UK's interior and garden industries. Not everyone is happy with the disruption to the industry but here at Avocado Sweets we're big fans of democratic design. Poor design affects our everyday life and we're pleased to share advice and knowledge so more people can understand how to get it right. Moreover, Houzz doesn't take away the need to use an interior designer. If anything, it highlights how difficult a good design can be to achieve. It's not just about the products, colours and materials you choose, but how they are all put together in a way that is right for you, your lifestyle and your space. Not to mention the skills needed to oversee a refurbishment or build project.
A good design takes, time, patience and skill. Houzz is a fantastic way for people to hone their own style and get inspiration. But getting it right from design to implementation, while avoiding pitfalls along the way, often needs an expert eye and experience.
Avocado Sweets on Houzz
As part of Houzz's efforts to make the UK site more relevant to our lifestyles, our Creative Director, Evros Agathou was asked to contribute his advice on how to make the most of a small space. It's great to see what you can do with a large, expansive property, but here in the UK our homes are half the size they were in the 1920s. Making a small space stylish and fit for purpose is a far harder task. Evros will be contributing advice and ideas each month as part of Houzz's select group of interior design experts.
Our residential portfolio on the site has already proved popular with Houzzers as well. Images of our designs have been added to 5,000 ideabooks and, for today's launch, have been featured in 13 different editorial ideabooks.
Interested in joining Houzz? Here's how it works:
Anyone looking for help with a design project can browse themed articles, photos and products; build up an "ideabook" of their favourite spots; seek advice from both experts and the public; and then be guided to a designer or other contractor capable of doing the job. The more you search, the more Houzz's algorithms should identify what styles you like and suggest new images for you to consider.
Hope you like it. We'll see you there.
