An Avocado Sweets design enjoyed its first taste of TV fame this week. Our colourful Living Room design was chosen as the inspiration space for this week’s episode of new craft-meets-interiors show - Craft It Yourself.
On a quest to find a design that exemplifies colour blocking, the producers jumped at the chance to film our award-nominated Islington Apartment.
Our design, which uses a spectrum of coloured storage across an entire feature wall, creates a sense of balance with earthy and industrial materials.
Presenters Ant Anstead, Clem Green and Robin Johnson were bowled over on filming day. On a quest to transform a dull living room for the programme, the trio analysed our carefully constructed look to help them come up with their own interiors ideas.
Describing it as ‘just the place’ to show her co-presenters ‘how to pull-off this multi-coloured look’ Clem led the team.
“Oh wow, look at this, this is amazing’ was their first reaction. Then the analysis began. Commenting on our colourful feature wall, Robin said: “It’s about using these block colours with confidence and they’ve done that really well here.”
The presenters also recognised the importance of carefully curating an overall look. “Another key feature is the lights. The lovely wool on here just tones everything down and makes it feel a bit more adult," added Robin. Clem agreed: "It shows how different materials carry colour in a different way," she said.
Describing our playful lego wall design (complete with key holder), Robin said: “This is like a dream come true for me.”
The presenters enthused over key features in the design such as the ‘After Matisse’ Rug and matching cushions by Sonya Winner studios, the epitome of colour blocking.
Inspired and motivated, the team went on to create a range of colourful hand-made furniture and accessories from screen printing to weaving for their own interiors challenge.
Susie Agathou, Director of Avocado Sweets said: "Interior designs and hand-made furniture that really work in a space, need time, thought and expertise. It's great to see these skills highlighted in Craft It Yourself."
"I hope others will feel inspired by this Avocado Sweets design and, if they love colour, have the confidence to go bold."
Our Islington Apartment design has already enjoyed international fame as a finalist in the SBID international design awards last year. You might also have spotted it in the Metro newspaper or design blogs and magazines world-wide. At the end of the day, it's a family space to be enjoyed - so we promise not to let it get a big head!
